Defines the envisiged use case scope for booking within the Standard
Service Discovery
- The service must support a unique identifier which booking Consumer extract to request slot availability and booking Providers map available slots against
- An ASID (Accredited System Identifier) must be capable of being stored against the service. This is used by booking Consumers to query SDS and find the related endpoint to direct requests
Slot display
- The schedule and related slot(s) must contain the actual geographic location (e.g address) of the booking, rather than generic details of the location of the overall service provider.
- The slot must contain details of the start/end times of the available slots
- The available slot(s) must be capable of being retrieved from any booking Provider, regardless of the relationship that the consuming user’s organisation has with that service provider (does not apply to GP Connect booking)
- The method of retrieval must not depend on any pre-installed data linkage processes between the requesting user’s organisation and the provider organisation. (does not apply to GP Connect booking)
- Where there are no available slots, the booking Provider must send an appropriate response to indicate this
- Where there are no available slots, the booking Consumer must present an appropriate message to the user to indicate this
- The booking Provider must return available slots without requiring the potential patient to be known to the provider
- Where the booking Provider has a number of diaries available to fulfil a request (say, when 2 or more clinicians are delivering surgeries at the same site) they must return all of those slots as part of the initial response
- If provided, the booking Consumer must display Delivery Channel, Healthcare Service and Practitioner Role, Name and Gender
- Booking Providers must not default the Delivery Channel value
- A booking Consumer must not assume a booking Provider will return requested _includes e.g. Location
- Booking Consumers must handle a Slot response without non mandatory FHIR resources
- Booking Consumers must handle a Slot response with FHIR resources not requested
- Sufficient information around the slot requests must be persisted to support the reporting and audit requirements
Booking - Request & Confirmation
- The booking Provider must accept the booking request even if the patient is not known to the service provider
- The booking Provider must accept potential patients who do not have a national validated identifier e.g. NHS No.
- Where the booking was not successful, the provider must send an appropriate response to indicate this
- Where the booking was not successful, the consumer must present an appropriate message to the user to indicate this
- The booking Consumer must send accompanying clinical information in a CDA Message
- The booking Consumer request must be referenced in the CDA message and vice versa
- The booking Provider must link the booking and CDA message
- The booking Consumer must ensure contact information for the patient and any related third parties is captured and sent in accordance with the Standard guidance
- Sufficient information around the booking process must be persisted to support the reporting and audit requirements
Booking outside assessment outcome timeframe
- The booking Consumer must allow clinical users to book outside the assessment outcome timeframe
- The booking Consumer must present to the user a notification and prompt to seek clinical approval to book outside the assessment outcome timeframe
- The booking Consumer must store sufficient data to show where a patient has been booked outside their assessment outcome timeframe
- Sufficient information around the booking outside assessment outcome timeframe must be persisted to support the reporting and audit requirements
Referral requires booking (booking only services)
- The booking Consumer must stop the users from making a referral if no booking has been made when the “requirebooking” service attribute is present against the DoS service
- The booking Consumer must present an appropriate warning message to the user, indicating the specific service requirements
- The booking Consumer must allow the referral to be sent when a booking is made, the service requirements having been met
- The user must be allowed to select an alternative service
- Sufficient information around the booking with booking only services must be persisted to support the reporting and audit requirements
Authentication
- Authentication tokens must align as documented
- Booking Consumer must generate tokens to adhere to the above
- Booking Providers must validate Consumer tokens in line with the documentation
Error Handling
- Booking Consumers and Providers must adhere the error handling guidance
- Sufficient information around errors encountered must be persisted to support the reporting and audit requirements
Non Functional
- Booking Consumers and Providers must adhere to the non functional requirements of the Standard
